First established in 2000, the plant has moved to its new location by the end of 2004 and has experienced a capacity increase. The plant has provided a solution to the liquid waste problem of the City of Muğla where the wastewaters are collected in septic tanks. While the plant's effluents are used in irrigating the parks and green spaces within the city, the stabilized sludge is used as a fertilizer in agriculture.
